Were unions ever necessary?

Today I'm asking another politically charged question. Were unions ever necessary to begin with?

Today a poll was released that now 46% of people today think unions mostly hurt labor relations, and 45% of respondents think that they help labor relations. This is the lowest numbers that unions have EVER had. Which I think makes it the ideal time to ask if unions were EVER necessary to help job conditions. Like the minimum wage, I think that it only hinders your ability to market your abilities to your boss, and to move up within the company. In union jobs you will never get into management, because management is not unionized.

At all the NON-Union shops today and yesterday people start at the bottom, work their ass off and end up becoming the assistant managers, managers and even part owners of these shops. At Retail giants like Pier 1, more often than not the district managers are former associates who used to work the floor selling goods.

At union stores, like Fred Meyer and Safeway the employee gets screwed over for promotions, and more often than not they'll blame the store. What they fail to realize that it's the UNION that is holding them back!

Let's go back and look at why. In the early 1910's before there was a minimum wage, maids in New York were paid a nominal wage of $1.20 an hour. Ten years later there was a shift in education level and there weren't as many maids to choose from. Just ten years later, the nominal wage for a maid went up to $9.00 an hour.

That's the free market at work.

Unlike has been stated by pro-union advocates, MOST of the improvements in the working conditions and benefits given to employees has come about in the non-unionized fields. And this will continue to be the case after the recession ends.

UPDATE 08/28/2013;

The UFCW is staging a walk out because they aren't happy with the contract being proprosed by Kroger.  Look at the economy today, do you really think we are better off than we were five years ago?  Are they really justified in asking for more benefits when so many people are still looking for a job?

The destruction of meritocracy in unionization leads people to rely on the collectivism of their union position.  They don't see their own self worth, only the worth of collective bargaining.

They'd be better off without unions, and Kroger would be as well.

Social Justice PT. II

More biblical proof that Social Justice and Socialism, Marxism, etc are unbiblical and ir-religious:

10th commandment:

Exodus 20:17 "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that [is] thy neighbour's."
The FUNDAMENTALS of modern liberalism is to make people covet what their neighbors have. Their healthcare, their house, their cars, their beliefs, their family, their race, their sexuality, etc.

This view is ABSOLUTELY destructive to humanity and to our nation. If you talk to someone that covets another person's belonging's (AKA the 25% of country that falls into the FAR left) they are ABSOLUTELY unhinged. They have absolutely no grounding in reality, and just spout lies to continue their justification for covetous behavior.

Marx himself was a covetous man. He tried to create an uprising of the working man that they should covet their boss.

That their boss is a bastard for keeping the good life from the proletariat...

And today we have the Covet-or in Chief running the USA. The greatest crime in covetous behavior is theft.

They steal from those who have earned their lifestyle to "equalize" those who have earned nothing.

In the end it just proves that the mental gymnastic liberals put themselves through to justify their world view has made most of them hyperbolic.

Social Justice

I'm writing this in response to research I've recently done on Judaism that has brought up a sore spot that I encountered with liberal christians, (especially Jim Wallis) the idea that Social Justice is the supreme will of God.

The problem with this viewpoint is that it FUNDAMENTALLY violates the 3rd commandment:

'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'

Now, most people simply means that we shouldn't us God, in swearing... For instance stating "God Damn" would be the traditional viewpoint of violating this Commandment.

The fundamental problem with this point of view is that the punishment for simply using God's name wrong does not at all compare with the other nine commandments, like adultery, murder and covetous behavior. The only answer is that what this Commandment is talking about USING God for your own means. Look at the direct hebrew translation:


la-shav: To Vanity, this is obviously a reference to the self, the individual.

el-lo-hey-kha: the holy name of God

Et-Shem-Adonai: The Name of "God" (Adonai is the generic word for God)

Tis-Sa Lo: You shall not take.

So:

You shall not use the name of God for self glorification.

These individuals that promote social justice (AKA Marxism) are doing so in the name of God.

GOD wants you to PERSONALLY help the poor, not have the government redistribute wealth to them and enslave them in poverty.
